Direct Primary Care

How Direct Primary Care Works: What to Actually Expect

Direct Primary Care replaces the usual insurance-billed office visit with a direct, monthly relationship between you and your care team. You pay one membership fee. In exchange, the practice doesn’t bill an insurance company for anything — not the visit, not the phone call, not the follow-up.

What’s included, and what isn’t

A DPC membership is built for the care you need often: sick visits, chronic condition management, preventive checkups, and direct access to your care team by text or call. It isn’t built to replace a hospital stay, a surgery, or specialist care — which is exactly why most members keep a separate high-deductible or catastrophic health plan alongside their membership.

Where this sits legally in Florida

Under Florida law, a direct primary care agreement isn’t insurance and isn’t regulated as insurance — it’s a direct contract between you and your primary care provider (Fla. Stat. §624.27). The statute also sets out what a compliant agreement must contain: it must be in writing, signed by both parties, and terminable by either side with at least 30 days’ written notice.
